Nathan is a former PSA (Professional Squash Association) World Tour player. He stopped playing professionally at the end of 1999 with a career high ranking of World Number 52 and 3 PSA tour titles. It was then, as a 25 year old, that he left his native homeland of England to pursue a coaching career in the USA. The University Club in Chicago was his first port of call as the Assistant Pro. He held this position until the summer of 2004 when he moved to the East Coast and the new challenge of designing and opening a six court facility. Nathan joined our staff here at The Cleveland Racquet Club in December of 2005 as the Squash Director. The squash program has grown both in size and in reputation during his time at the Club. He has hosted numerous national adult and junior events including a Junior Championship Tour Event and has brought the world of WISPA to Cleveland. The 2011 International Cleveland WISPA Classic boasted a draw with 13 of the top 15 players in the world present, the final of which saw Laura Massaro inflict the first loss for world number 1, Nicol David, in over 14 months!
In 2009 and 2010, Nathan was selected as a USA Junior National Coach for the Battle Of The Borders International against Canada. As a level 4 International Professional Coach, Nathan holds the highest level of coaching qualification available. There are less than 10 coaches in the whole of America with this coaching certificate. He is also a SPA professional with Squash USA and has been an instructor and assessor for coaches in the US trying to gain their coaching qualifications.
Nathan has won two US Squash National Titles winning the over 25’s in 2002 and the over 30’s in 2005. During his playing career, he recorded numerous victories against world top 10 players including two world number 1’s. In addition to squash, he has 8 British National Racquetball Championships under his belt. Nathan has played on USTA tennis teams while here at the Club and is also a member of the Men’s Paddle Tennis first team – which he also coaches and holds the P2 level coaching certificate.
While living in England, Nathan held positions as the Head Professional at Racquets Fitness on the outskirts of Oxford, The Head Professional at Eton College Boy’s School, and was the Assistant Southern Area Coach for England Squash.
