Welcome to The Cleveland Racquet Club Platform Tennis program (also known as Paddle Tennis), the best reason to be outdoors in the Cleveland winters!
Platform Tennis is a doubles-oriented winter racquet sport, played on specially constructed, raised platforms with heaters beneath for extreme weather conditions. The court resembles a small tennis court in appearance with the addition of a taut, 12 foot wire fence around the perimeter. A short paddle replaces the use of a racquet and the ball, although tennis ball sized is not hollow which provides high bounces. Tactically, platform tennis combines the fun and challenges of tennis, squash and racquetball with accuracy and reading angles at a premium over power and speed.
The Cleveland Racquet Club offers the most comprehensive paddle program in Northeast Ohio, with programming for new players, juniors and advanced men and women. Our four regulation paddle courts at The Cleveland Racquet Club see plenty of competitive play during the season (October to March), as we offer interclub teams and box leagues for the dedicated player. We have three certified USPTA instructors on staff, available for both group and private lessons; please contact a Pro or the Pro shop for more information.
In 2004, The Cleveland Racquet Club was honored to host the APTA Nationals. In 2009 we were awarded the Mixed APTA Nationals. Local area events such as The Cleveland Cup are permanent fixtures on the calendar and we will be a major part of tournament paddle play in Cleveland for years to come.
